Women's Tennis Drops Tough 4-3 Decision to Southern Illinois

The Murray State women's tennis team jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Southern Illinois battled back for a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Racers Sunday morning at the Rowton Tennis Center in Paducah.
MSU jumped out to the lead in doubles as the top duo of Angela McGahee and Anne Pennington were victorious, 8-4. The Salukis battled back to take an 8-6 decision at No. 3 doubles over Lynsey Bochenek and Katelyn Fulcher. The Racers came away with the point after the No. 2 team of Lyndsay Ottosen and Alexis Webb came away with a 7-5 victory in the tie breaker.
In singles action, Ottosen and Webb eased to victories at No. 5 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Ottosen took care of Agata Skorupska, 6-3, 6-3, while Webb handed Jessica Flannery a 6-2, 6-4 defeat.
The Salukis would seize control of the match from there as Michela Cruise handed a Bochenek at 6-1, 6-4 defeat. SIU would follow that up with a pair of three-set victories as Sabine Tsala Mvilongo battled back for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over McGahee at the top spot, while Amanda Talliefer came away with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles.
With the match all tied, Martina Vianna Ce and Anne Pennington were locked in a tight match at No. 2 singles. Vianna Ce took the first set 7-5 before the second set went to a tiebreaker. The two were nip and tuck throughout before Pennington fell 12-10 in the tiebreaker.
The Racers return to the court on March 6 as they travel to take on Southeast Missouri in the OVC opener. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m.
