OVC Indoor Track and Field Championships - Day One Recap

Day one of the 2008 Ohio Valley Conference track and field Indoor Championships came and went for the Murray State on Friday, as the Racers set themselves up to finish up strong at the competition held at the Wilma Rudolph Indoor Track at the Gentry Center in Nashville, Tenn.
After five events scored, the Murray State women held onto first place in the team rankings, earning a 32.50 score, barely edging out host Tennessee State's score of 32.
In the 800 meter run preliminaries, sophomore Taylor Crawford earned the top seed, finishing first in the field of 21 with a time of 2:13.53.
In the 400 meter dash, freshman Amber Mills qualified for Saturday's final trial, placing sixth out of 27 with a time of 58.41.
Freshman Audris Williams qualified for Saturday as well, finishing in eighth place out of 21 runners in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.27.
In the distance medley, MSU was one of two teams to qualify for Saturday's final, as Asenath NaAman, Sydney Gholston, Meagan Richeson, and Katelyn Jones finished in first place with a time of 12:08.11, which is a new OVC and school record - the third time the distance medley relay time has been broken this season.
In the 5000 meter run finals, Alaina Zanin ran the course in 19:40.74, good enough for 12th place.
In the long jump finals, Olivia Joseph took home a third place finish with a jump of 5.84 meters (19-02.00). Also in the competition included Chelsea Hosey (12th place; 5.36 meters (17-07.00)), and Audris Williams (15th; 5.10 meters (16-08.75)).
In the high jump finals, junior Maggie McKay finished in fifth place, jumping 1.63 meters (5-04.25). Also competing in the high jump finals were Hosey (11th place; 1.58 meters (5-02.25)), and Rachel Haley (13th; 1.48 meters (4-10.25)).
In the shot put, senior Dominique Robinson finished in second place with a toss of 13.78 meters (45-02.50), while Shameka Dial finished in fourth place with a toss of 13.48 meters (44-02.75). Felicia Hargis also took part in the shot put, finishing in 15th place with a toss of 10.94 meters (35-10.75).
Day two action begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
