
Racers Sweep TSU to Give Purcell 100th Career Victory

Murray State head men's tennis coach Mel Purcell reached a milestone on Tuesday as the coach recorded his 100th career victory as his Racers handed Tennessee State a 7-0 victory at Purcell Courts. The victory improved the team to 1-7 overall and 1-1 in Ohio Valley Conference action.
MSU started the match with a sweep in doubles as Mason Johnson and Jadir Semensin rolled to an 8-1 victory and were followed quickly by Nick Ksiezopolski and Mikel Headford with an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles. The top duo of Chris Horton and Hunter Gerlach had to work a little before coming out with the 8-5 victory.
Semensin got he Racers started in singles action as he handed Jaala Brooks a 6-0, 6-0 defeat at No. 4. Ksiezolpolski followed it up with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Austin Fields at No. 3. Gerlach closed out the victory for the Racers with a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Justin Hamm at No. 1. Horton continued the momentum with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Aaron Fields at No. 2. Mason Johnson and Mikel Headfor closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 5 and a 6-0, 7-5 victory at No. 6.
The Racers return to the court on March 27 as they travel and take on Kentucky. Frist serve is set for 3 p.m.
