Men's Tennis Honors Four Seniors on Senior Day

The Murray State men's tennis team fell in a close one today to Eastern Illinois, 4-3 on Senior Day at Purcell Courts.
Before the game, head coach Mel Purcell honored the four seniors that made up the 2008 squad: Hunter Gerlach, Chris Horton, Nicholas Ksiezopolski, and Yuri Pompeu.
In the doubles flight, at No.3, Jeff Rutherford and Vuk Milicevic won the match for Eastern Illinois, defeating Mason Johnson and Jadir Semensin, 8-5. Murray answered back with a win at No. 2, as Ksiezopolski and Pompeu teamed up to defeat Jordan Nestrud and Sean Bush of Eastern Illinois, 8-5. EIU earned the doubles flight point at No. 1, when Horton and Gerlach lost in a tiebreaker to Robert Stedman and Chris Thomas, 9-8 (3).
In the singles competition, Nestrud defeated Ksiezopolski, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, while at No. 5, MSU's Mikel Headford took the 6-4, 6-2 victory over Thomas. Gerlach was defeated by Rutherford at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2, but Murray State responded back with Horton defeating Milicevic, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2. EIU clinched the match at No. 2, with Stedman defeating Pompeu, 6-1, 7-6 (4). At No. 6, Semensin defeated EIU's Felipe Gama, 6-3, 7-6 (8).
The Racers round out the 2008 season on Monday, April 14, when they will travel to Clarksville, Tenn. to face Austin Peay at 2:30 p.m.
