
Craycraft Tosses Complete-Game Gem

Murray State second baseman Brooks Thornton delivered a bases clearing double in the first inning and right hander Chris Craycraft tossed a complete-game three-hitter as the Thoroughbreds defeated Southeast Missouri State 5-3 in the series opener Saturday afternoon at Capaha Field.
Craycraft allowed three runs on six hits and struck out three, while only tossing 106 pitches.
The 'Breds (11-11, 2-4 OVC) got the offense rolling in the first inning as Matt Phillips got sawed-off and blooped a single over the pitcher's mound for an infield hit to start the game. After a flyout, Wes Cunningham was hit by a pitch and Taylor Thieke singled to right to load the bases. Thornton would then clear the bases with a double into the left-field corner. Tyler Owen closed out the scoring in the first by plating Thornton with a single to right field.
SEMO (11-10, 3-2 OVC) got a run back in the home-half of the inning as Nick Harris tripled to the base of the wll in right and scored on a groundout by Jim Klocke.
MSU added an unearned run in the third inning as Elliot Frey reached second on a throwing error by the third baseman. Cunningham followed with an infield single and Thieke drove in Frey with a sacrifice fly to center field.
The Redhawks again anwered back in the home-half of the inning as Harris reached on a fielder's choice and stole second with two outs. Klocke plated the runn with a single to left center.
SEMO added another run with two outs in the ninth as Matt Wagner delivered an RBI double.
Josh Syberg (0-3) took the loss after giving up five runs, three earned, on hits over 5.2 innings.
Cunningham and Owen each collected two hits.
The two teams will play the second game of the doubleheader 30 minutes following the completion of the opener.
