Men's Tennis Drops 6-1 Decision to Samford

The Murray State men's tennis team played a red-hot league-leading Samford team today, and lost 6-1 at Purcell Courts.
For MSU (1-11, 1-5 Ohio Valley Conference), the team of Jadir Semensin and Mason Johnson led off the doubles flight, falling 8-3 to the Samford team of Renan Silveira and Kelwin DeWet at No. 3. At No. 1, Sam Huffman and Hank Grant of Samford defeated Chris Horton and Hunter Gerlach, 8-5, while Jordan Delass and Richard Walsh also defeated Murray's Yuri Pompeu and Nicholas Ksiezopolski, 8-6 at No. 2.
The first singles match of the day pitted MSU's Pompeu against Delass of Samford (10-6, 5-0 OVC) at No. 1, in which Delass won 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2, Gerlach then fell to Silveira, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 4, Ksiezopolski was defeated by Samford's Brian Dushock, 6-2, 6-1, while Grant outlasted Murray State's Mikel Headford for a 6-1, 6-3 decision at No. 5. At No. 3, Horton was defeated by Huffman, 6-4, 6-4, while Semensin defeated Oliver Reynolds, 2-6, 6-2 (10) at No. 6 to give Murray State their only point of the match.
The men will return to action this Tuesday against Tennessee-Martin at Purcell Courts at 2:30 p.m.
