Aska and Jenkins Earn OVC Weekly Honors

Murray State's Ivan Aska and B.J. Jenkins earned Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week honors Monday in a vote of the league's sports information directors.
Aska, a sophomore from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., last year's OVC Freshman of the Year, averaged 18.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game last week as Murray State lost by only five points at nationally-ranked California and topped UMSL by 38 points at home.
Aska hit 82.4 percent (14-of-17) from the field and 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from the free throw line in the two games. He had a 17-point effort in the season-opener at No. 12 Cal and added a 20-point outing against UMSL where he hit 9-of-9 from the field.
Jenkins, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., averaged 12.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
He hit 8-of-16 from the field and 5-of-11 (45.5%) from 3-point range in the two games. He scored 16 points in the Cal game hitting 4-of-7 from three-point range.
The Racers hit the road this week for Miami, Fla., and three games in the Coaches vs Cancer Classic. MSU meets James Madison in a 3 p.m. central time game at US Century Bank Arena. After an off day Saturday, the Racers play North Carolina Central Sunday and the host Florida International Monday.
