Isaiah Canaan Earns OVC Freshman of the Week Honor

The Ohio Valley Conference named Murray State's Isaiah Canaan its OVC Freshman of the Week in voting by the league's sports information directors.
Canaan helped the Racers to a 73-62 win Saturday over visiting Chattanooga in which he played 24 minutes and scored 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-7 from three-point range. He also had three assists and one steal.
This is the second time Canaan has won the OVC Freshman of the Week award (following Nov. 30) and now has firmly placed himself as a candidate for freshmen of the year in the OVC.
Through 11 games, the native of Biloxi, Miss., has scored in double-figures six times with a season-high 17 against UMSL Nov. 14.
He also has a streak of 10 straight games in which he has made at least one three-pointer.
In addition to Canaan's two OVC honors, the Racers have won two additional player of the week awards this season in the OVC. Ivan Aska was OVC Player of the Week and B.J. Jenkins was OVC Newcomer of the Week Nov. 16.
