ESPNU COMING TO RSEC: The big games keep coming in the final week of the regular season when the Murray State Racers host the Morehead State Eagles Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Regional Special Events Center. The game will also be aired by ESPNU. The Racers are 16-11 and 11-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference, just a game behind first place Morehead State who are tied with UT Martin at 12-4. MSU has won eight of their last nine and five straight in conference play. The Racers are coming off a 74-59 Monday home win over UTM on a night when Isacc Miles recorded a triple-double and Ivan Aska scored his second career double-double in the Racer victory.
RSEC - THE FRIENDLY CONFINES: The Racers are 128-25 (.835) all-time in 11 seasons in the RSEC and are 9-2 this season with losses to Austin Peay and Louisiana Tech. MSU is 90-15 (.855) in OVC games in the RSEC and 31-9 (.775) in the Billy Kennedy era.
FIRST MEETING: The Racers and Eagles played a thriller in their first meeting in Morehead, Ky. on Dec. 6. The Eagles came away with a 79-74 win snapping MSU's 11-game win streak in the series. The Racers trailed by as many as 11 in the first half but led by four in the second half before the outcome was decided. MSU pushed ahead by four points on three different occasions, the last at the 5:31 mark. The lead was gone at the 1:40 mark when Morehead made a pair of free throws to go up 74-73. MSU suffered one of their 13 turnovers with 1:03 left leading to an easy Eagles basket to seal the game. Isacc Miles led MSU with 17 points, while Ivan Aska and Tyler Holloway each added 12.
RACERS RANK AMONG THE BEST: The Racers have clinched a winning season in both the OVC and overall for the 22nd straight season. MSU's conference streak is tops in the nation, just ahead of Kansas who has clinched 20 straight in the Big-12. MSU's overall streak is tied for fifth with Connecticut who has also clinched a winning season. Syracuse is the leader having clinched their 39th straight. Second place Oklahoma has clinched 28 straight, Kansas is in third place with 26, and fourth place is Arizona with 25.
DARING DEFENSE: Murray State has held their opponents to 60 or less points in each of their last nine wins. A big part in MSU's win over UT Martin was holding UTM's Lester Hudson to 15 points when he came in as the nation's second leading scorer at 27.9 points per game. The Racers were the first team to hold Hudson under 20 points in the last 28 games and have held him to less than 20 in back to back games.
