Murray State hit the ball hard Wednesday afternoon against Belmont, but just could not find any holes in the field as the 'Breds dropped a 4-3 decision at Reagan Field.
The 'Breds (20-15) got on the board in the first as Zach Noonan doubled to left center and went to third on Elliot Frey's single up the middle. Daniel Hill drove in Noonan on a grounder to short that skipped into shallow left field.
BU (20-16) responded in the second with three runs on three hits. A leadoff walk came around to score on Phillip Parsley's single to left field. Packy Elkins drove in the second run with a single through the right side. Derek Hamblen plated the third run with a sacrifice fly to center field.
The Bruins added a run in the third as Brandon McCall started the fram with an infield single and later scored on Matt Zeblo's single up the middle.
MSU got the run back in the home-half of the inning as Jason Laws ripped a single to center field with two outs. Bryan Propst followed with a run-producing double into the gap in right center.
The 'Breds got within one run in the fifth as Hill and Laws were hit by pitches to start the inning. With two outs, Jonathan Craycraft delivered an RBI single to center field.
Lucas Allen (0-4) took the loss after giving up three runs on three hits and three walks in 1.1 innings. Garrett Fanchier (3-2) picked up the win after allowing two runs on five hits in four innings. Jimm Stanley (5) earned the save after allowing one hit over two innings.
The 'Breds return to the diamond Saturday afternoon as they open a three-game series at Eastern Kentucky. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. central time.
