Track and Field Competes at WKU Invitational

The Murray State track and field team traveled to Bowling Green, Ky. this weekend for the WKU Invitational where they took home two first place finishes and set a season best in the 4x100-meter relay.
Katelyn Jones took first place in the 3,000-meter steeple chase with a time of 10:59.36. Bridget Stichnot placed fourth in the event with a time of 12:19.15 and Kayla Crusham took fifth with a time of 12:43.37.
Taylor Crawford also took home first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.82.
"I think with all factors considered we had a good performance and it was another opportunity to prepare for the conference meet," said head coach Dereck Chavis. "The wind was high and we had to contest with that, but we still turned out some pretty good times.
Sophomore Brandy Williams set a season best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.91 to take third place.
The Murray State relay teams finished second in the 4x100-meter 47.30 and the 4x400-meter relay (4:06.58).
Freshman Lexie Barr and Alicia Tempel tied for second in the pole vault with a vault of 10'11.75" (3.35m).
Shameka Dial also placed second in the shot put with a throw of 47'07.00" (14.50m) and placed fifth in the discus throw with a toss of 129'11.00" (39.59m).
Freshman Bernith Charlestain rounded out the second place finishes for the Racers with a distance of 36'05.75" (11.04m) in the triple jump.
With their consistent improvement this season the Racers should be tough competition in the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championship that will be held May 1-2, 2009 in Richmond, Ky.
