The Racers (10-12, 6-5 OVC) were led by senior Ashley Nenninger, who tallied 15 kills and added three blocks. Junior Jade Guo had a .533 (8k-0e-15ta) hitting percentage, with 29 assists and 11 digs. Fellow junior Logan Su added a .400 (9k-1e-20ta) attack percentage while junior Kayleah Sauer led the defense, with 16 digs.
The Racers and the Tigers (5-13, 3-7 OVC) started the first set with a true battle for control. The teams combined for two lead changes and 13 tie scores and battled all the way to extra points. MSU, who trailed by one to three points for most of the set, used a 2-0 run to tie the set at 23 and the teams then traded the next four serves before the Racers earned the final two points needed to win the set 27-25. The final point came on a service by Guo.
The second set was the same as the first, with the same 27-25 outcome and the same amount of tie scores. The Racers led for most of the set, with most of the ties coming in the final half of the set. It looked like MSU would earn a win in the normal point range after they went on a 5-0 run, which gave them a 22-17 advantage. However, the Tigers went on a 4-0 run to close the gap to one point. The Racers then earned set-point, but TSU used a 2-0 run to tie the set at 24 and force the extra points. MSU earned the win on two errors by the Tigers and took a 2-0 advantage into the intermission.
The Racers came out of the intermission with a plan and immediately went into action, going on a 4-0 run to open the set and did not allow the Tigers to score more than one point in-a-row more than once in the set. MSU had tallied 20 points before TSU reached double-digits in the set and went on to win 25-12.
MSU tallied a .306 (43k-9e-11ta) team hitting percentage in the match, marking the fifth time this season the team hit over .300. The Tigers combined for a .208 (41k-15e-125ta) mark. One of the key areas on the box score that the Racers held an advantage was in the service errors column, with MSU committing five to TSU's 12.
The Racers will continue their Swinging To Eliminate Cancer fundraising weekend Saturday, Oct. 23 with a match-up against Austin Peay in Racer Arena at 2 p.m.
