10/20/2010 12:08:10 PM | Women's Volleyball
The Murray State volleyball team will conclude a four-match home stand this weekend with matches against Tennessee State (Fri., Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.) and Austin Peay (Sat., Oct. 23 at 2 p.m.) in Racer Arena. The matches are part of the Racers' annual fundraiser, Swinging To Eliminate Cancer.
Swinging To Eliminate Cancer
For the third-straight season the Murray State volleyball team will be hosting Swinging To Eliminate Cancer, a fundraiser to help those effected by cancer. But this season the team will be raising money to help closer to home, teaming up with Murray-Calloway County Regional Cancer Center. All the funds raised will now go to the MCCRCC in honor of Kendra Schwepker, the wife of MSU head volleyball coach David Schwepker.
Scouting Tennessee State
The Tigers have had a rough couple of weeks, losing four-straight matches to the top three teams in the conference. TSU has a team hitting percentage of .148 and has just two players hitting over .175. The Tigers have a disadvantage in the hitting percentage column (.148 to .225) and in the digs area (14.3 to 16.2). The team has a slight lead in the service ace column (1.6 to 1.5), but that gets discounted when you look at service errors (175 to 145).
TSU has four players with over 100 kills, but only one of those players hits over .175. Vicmari Prospero leads the team with a .308 (143k-41e-331ta) hitting percentage, but she sees half the attempts that Santia Sanders gets, with 163 kills and 609 total attempts (.128).
Against the Tigers
In the first meeting this season between TSU and MSU, the Racers earned a 3-1 win in Nashville. MSU was led by senior Sara Hayden, with a .786 (11k-0e-14ta) hitting percentage. Fellow seniors Becca Lamb and Ashley Nenninger added 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Junior Kayleah Sauer led the team on defense, with 25 digs.
The Racers out-hit the Tigers .324 to .228 and earned a 74-57 advantage in digs. TSU earned a 4-7 advantage in service aces, but also committed 14 service errors to MSU's four.

The Racers have a 40-6 lead in the all-time series, including victories in the last four matches. MSU has been victorious in 19-of-21 matches played in Murray.
