Racer Rifle Successful Weekend - Posts Win Over Army

The Murray State rifle team came home with a split of their two matches over the weekend in Lexington, Ky., when they defeated Army 4654-4622 in a shoulder-to-shoulder match at the UK Rifle Range.
The win over Army meant the Racers got a split after losing a close match to Kentucky on Friday by only eight points.
“I was really pleased with the weekend, for a number of reasons,” MSU Head Coach Alan Lollar said. “First, the fact that we lined up face to face with a higher ranked team and performed well. We went into a stressful situation and maintained our cool. We focused on what we could control and shot our best score of the year.”
Indeed MSU's 4647 against Kentucky in their best this season in five matches.
“One of our stated goals is to perform our best, when our best is needed and we did that both days,” Lollar added.
Coming into the weekend, the Racers were ranked fifth in the nation and UK was fourth.
In the weekend matches, the Racers saw several shooters post personal bests including, Kyle Donnan with a 587 in air rifle and 577 in smallbore, while Nehemiah Gillman posted personal records with a 579 in smallbore and a 590 in air rifle. MSU's good news continued with Kaitlyn Cleven scoring a 594 in air rifle. Ashley Rose matched her smallbore personal best with a 573 and set a new one in air rifle with a 583. Emily Quiner was solid in the 1160's aggregate both days and Caroline Barber shot a 581 on Saturday against Army.
The Racers are 3-1 this season in shoulder-to-shoulder matches.
MSU plays host to defending national champion Texas Christian Saturday at 8 a.m., at the Pat Spurgin Range in Roy Stewart Stadium.
“We look forward to hosting the defending National Champs this weekend,” Lollar said. “They're well coached and lighting it up this year. We look forward to the challenge.”
