Series Record Eastern Kentucky leads 40-25-4
STORY LINES
Murray State has lost five-straight games to Eastern Kentucky, and eight of the last nine. The last victory in the series was a 19-16 overtime victory in Richmond in 2004.
u Murray State will be playing in its third-straight Homecoming game. The Racers defeated Missouri State (72-59) at Stewart Stadium, and then went on the road to spoil Homecoming at Eastern Illinois (38-28).
Junior running back Mike Harris has gone over 100 yards in three of the five games he has played this season. He is the first Racer running back to go over 100 yards in three games in one season since Chad Cook in 2004.
The Racers will be playing on television for the fifth time this season as Saturday's contest will be televised on Wazoo Sports as the OVC Game of the Week. Jim Tirey will handle the play-by-play duties, with Fred Farrier serving as the color analyst.
The Racers are looking for their-straight victory on Saturday. The last three-game winning streak happened in 2004 when MSU won their final four games of the season.
The Game
The Racers look for back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference victories as they travel to face Eastern Kentucky. Kickoff is set for 2:07 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Wazoo Sports as the OVC Game of the Week.
The Series
The Racers and Colonels are meeting for the 70th time with EKU holding a 40-25-4 advantage in the series. MSU is just 11-21-2 in games played in Richmond. The Racers have dropped five straight and eight of the last nine in the series.
Racers Receiving Votes
Murray State received 14 votes in this weeks FCS Coaches Poll. The Racers are sixth among teams receiving votes.
Last Victory vs. EKU
It has been six years since the Racers last tasted victory against EKU. In 2004. In that game, running back Chad Cook scored from five yards out in overtime to give the Racers a 19-16 victory.
Hatcher Returns to Lexington Area
Head Coach Chris Hatcher was not familiar with any parts of this region, except for Lexington. That is because Hatcher served one year as an assistant coach at Kentucky under Hal Mumme in 1999.
Brockman Streak at 124
Sophomore quarterback Casey Brockman has thrown 124-straight passes without throwing an interception. Brockman has not thrown an interception in 103 passes this season, and did not throw one in his final 21 attempts of 2009.
Quest For Three Straight
The Racers will be going for their third-straigh victory against Eastern Kentucky. MSU has not won three-straight games since they ended the 2004 season with four-straight victories.
Brockman Sets Comp-Att. Mark
Quarterback Casey Brockman turned in his second record-breaking performance in a row as he established new school records for completions and attempts against Eastern Illinois. He finished the game by completing 41 passes, breaking the old record of 38 set earlier this season by Jeff Ehrhardt. He also threw the ball 58 times, besting the old mark of 56 by Stewart Childress in 2000.
Racers 100-Yard Man
Running back Mike Harris has appeared in five games this season and has gone over 100 yards in three of those games. The junior is averaging 115.0 yards a game and became the first Racer since Chad Cook in 2004 to go over 100 yards in three different games.
Daniels Has Career Day
Senior Rashad Daniels joined the list of receivers to have a career day this season as he hauled in 12 passes for 117 yards against Eastern Illinois. Prior to that game, Daniels career best in receptions was seven against Central Arkansas, and 79 yards against Missouri State.
22-Play Drive
MSU put together one of the longest drives in school history when the Racers put together a 22-play drive against Eastern Illinois. The drove took 8:06 off the clock and only managed 53 yards. The drive included a successful fake punt, followed by three third-down conversions and two more fourth-down conversions before ending with a 43-yard field goal.
Fake Punt Execution
MSU executed its first fake punt of the season against Eastern Illinois as Rashad Daniels took a direct snap and went 19 yards around the left side. The Racers were facing a 4th-and-6 at their own 24 with the game tied 28-28.
The Art of the Sky Kick
The Racers have mastered the art of the sky kick over the last couple games as MSU has recovered three kicks over that span. The Racers recovered a pair of fumbles against Missouri State, and fell on a loose ball against Eastern Illinois.
