Racer Rifle Takes Second At Ole Miss Invitational

OLE MISS INVITATIONAL RESULTS
The Murray State Rifle Squad had a solid performance over the weekend at the Ole Miss Invitational in Oxford, Miss., when they came home with a second place finish just behind defending NCAA champion TCU.
The racers shot their best team score in the last the last three years with a 4640.
MSU scored a 2301 in smallbore and 2339 in air rifle.
In final results, TCU won the event with a score of 4676, ahead of the Racers at 4640.
Columbus State was third at 4638, while Jacksonville State (4631) and Ole Miss (4602) made up the top five in the field of 14 teams.
MSU had two shooters who recorded personal best totals, including Emily Quiner with a 584 smallbore which included an amazing 199 from the kneeling position of a possible 200. Quiner only dropped 3 points between prone and kneeling.
Katie Cleven shot a personal best 590 in air rifle, after shooting a 578 smallbore, while Kyle Donnan tied a personal best in air rifle with a 583.
Nehemiah Gillman turned in another good smallbore match with a 573.
MSU's smallbore scores included: Quiner 584, Cleven 578, Gillman 573, Bill Harvey 566, Donnan 561 and Caroline Barber 555. Air rifle scores included: Cleven 590, Quiner 588, Donnan 583, Gillman 578, Barber 572 and Harvey 570.
“I was really proud of our effort,” MSU Head Coach Alan Lollar said. “Our team continues to work hard and take the steps we need to take. We are building a foundation with young shooters that will pay off in the future.”
The Racers next competition is a shoulder-to-shoulder match Saturday at the Pat Spurgin Range at 8 a.m.
