Racers Drop 0-3 Decision at Eastern Kentucky

MSU was led by senior Becca Lamb, who tallied a .381 (9k-1e-21ta) hitting percentage. Junior Logan Su led the team in kills, with 11.
The opening set was filled with rallies and a back-and-forth battle for control of the scoreboard. The Colonels were the first to take a large lead (six points) with a 6-0 run after the first four serves. EKU built the lead to eight (5-13) before the Racers fought back and cut the lead to three (10-13), with a 5-0 run and took their first lead (16-15), with a 4-0 run. Both teams then battled back and forth for a few points before EKU took advantage of an 8-6 run to garner the first set-point of the set. MSU would not back down and tied the set at 24 forcing extra points. The final tie of the set (number 10) came at 25 before the Colonels earned the needed two point advantage and took the first set 25-27.
EKU took an early lead in the second set and never let the Racers get closer than one point (3-4) early in the set. The Colonels kept the pressure up throughout the set and increased its lead to as many as nine points before earning the 18-25 win. The Racers did not give up and held off set-point three times before heading into the intermission down 0-2.
The third set was a back-and-forth battle for the first eight serves, then EKU used a 10-2 run to take control of the set for good. The Colonels built their lead to as many as 10 points on the way to a 22-25 win.
The Racers will return home to Racer Arena for the next two weeks, starting with matches against Southeast Missouri (Friday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.) and Eastern Illinois (Saturday, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m.). The match against the Redhawks will conclude the first half of the OVC season.
Notes: Junior Jade Guo took over the No. 4 position on the Career Assists charts at MSU and now has 2,966, 324 from third place held by Mica Wojinski (3,290)…junior Kayleah Sauer also moved up on the Career Digs list to the No.7 spot…Sauer now has 1,381 digs and is 83 from the No. 6 spot held by Jill McCoy (1,464)…Sauer started the season in the No. 13 position on the digs list, while Guo began at the No. 6 spot on the assists list.
