Zay Jackson Signs With Murray State Basketball

Murray State Head Men's Basketball Coach Billy Kennedy announced the signing of 6-0 guard Zay Jackson of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Hammond, La.
“In Zay, we're getting a great athlete who competes at a high level,” Kennedy said. “His toughness on the defensive end excites me the most.”
Jackson averaged 18.2 points per game, 3.6 assists and 2.8 steals in his junior 2009-10 season, and has received a two-star rating from ESPN.
He was named Louisiana All-State in class 2A as a junior in the 2009-10 season and was also named All-District 9 MVP.
His team at St. Thomas Aquinas has been very successful with a Louisiana 2A championship his freshman season and they advanced to the state semifinals in his sophomore season.
St. Thomas Aquinas has a 102-18 record in the last three seasons for Coach Errol Gauff.
“He is a very competitive player on both ends of the floor, he wants to win the individual and team battle,” Gauff said. “He's very athletic and strong for his size. To be honest, he can do a little bit of everything.
Kennedy is impressed with the program that Jackson will graduate from after this season.
“He comes from one of the best high school programs in Louisiana,” Kennedy said. “He is used to winning and knows what it takes to win championships.”
Jackson made the Sunkist Invitational All-Tournament team last season when he averaged 30.7 points per game in the four games of the event, with 60 percent shooting from the field and 50 percent from three-point range.
“In his three years in our program, the thing he has improved the most is his shooting ability especially from three-point range,” Gauff added. “We stress defense here and he really tries to get after it. Coach Kennedy and the Racer fans will be excited when they see him guard people and the energy he brings.”
Jackson, a decorated track & field athlete, is the reigning Louisiana Class 2A state champion in the triple jump at 47 feet, and the state champion in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 6 inches.
