Jaylen Bland Signs With Murray State Basketball

Murray State Head Men's Basketball Coach Billy Kennedy announced the signing of 6-2 guard Jaylen Bland of Cleveland High School in Reseda, Calif.
“Jaylen is a wing player who can really score,” Kennedy said. “His ability to shoot the three will be counted on next season. He comes from a good high school program and he will be prepared to help us early.”
As a junior in the 2009-10 season, Bland averaged 15 points per game, seven rebounds and three assists. He was a 43 percent shooter from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and 83 percent from the free throw line.
Bland was named All-Los Angeles City Section First Team and All-Los Angeles Honorable Mention after his junior season that saw Cleveland make it to the California 4A quarterfinals.
Bland also had a good summer in 2010 playing for the Valley Stars Pump-n-Run AAU team where he scored 30 points per game.
“He is a pleasure to coach, we're talking about a fine young man,” Cleveland Head Coach Osiris Nalls said. “He has a great work ethic. He's a student first and has taken care of his responsibility in the classroom; he is a leader and mentor to his teammates and my son.”
“He's a good shooter,” Coach Nalls added. “He's going to be a better defender than he is right now, he's a player that will fit in well with Coach Kennedy's philosophy and he rebounds well for a guard.”
