Racers Fall to No. 8/9 Kentucky at Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic

The Racers (2-3) were led by junior Kayla Lowe and sophomore Mariah Robinson, each garnering season highs of 14 points. Robinson also added seven rebounds and went 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Junior Rachael Isom was also a double-digit scorer for MSU, with 12.
The Wildcats (4-0) opened the game with a 16-0 run over the first 6:30 of play before Lowe got the Racers on the board with a layup. UK used strong offense during the span, making its first five shot attempts. The first shot that was missed was blocked by junior Mallory Schwab. After MSU broke its scoreless streak, the Racers went on a 7-2 run over the next two minutes. The Wildcats held onto its double-digit advantage throughout the half, with both teams going long periods without scoring. At 7:19 MSU started another run, this time 5-0, which held UK scoreless for four minutes. The run cut the lead to 33-21, but the Wildcats ended the half with an 8-0 run to take a 41-21 lead into the locker room.
The Racers came out stronger in the second half keeping the deficit around 20 for the majority of the 20-minute stanza. The Wildcats pushed the momentum a few times in the half, including the three minutes when they built their lead out to 32.
MSU did well on the defensive side of the ball, holding UK to a 37.5 shooting percentage for the game, well below its season average of 41.3 percent. Free throws were a big factor in the game, as the Racers made 12-of-17, but allowed the Wildcats to go to the line 35 times (making 24). Rebounds were also a factor, with UK earning a 62-45 advantage.
The Racers will be in action Saturday, Nov. 27 in the consolation game of the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Southern Miss. MSU will face Louisiana-Lafayette at 2 p.m. in Reed Green Coliseum.
