“It is always great to have former student-athletes back on campus,” said head track & field coach Jenny Severns. “It was especially nice to have Martyn on campus speaking to students about what it takes to be successful. Murray State has an excellent tradition in track & field and it is great to have the current student-athletes get a chance to speak with someone who went through the same process they are going through right now.”
Brewer, a two-time track and field All-American, is the Global Sports Relations manager for Adidas and travels between Portland, Ore., and Moscow to help set up a director for Adidas in Russia. Brewer came to the United States from his home country of England in the 1980's as a sponsored athlete and upon graduation took a job with Nike. He worked for Nike for several years as a technical representative, sports marketing and European sports manager before heading to Adidas as vice president and head of global sports marketing in Germany in 1994.
Brewer spoke to students about what it takes to be successful in the global economy and gave advice on how to maximize their time at Murray State to prepare themselves for their professional lives.
