Racers Travel To Face Chattanooga In Saturday Showdown

The Murray State Racers travel to the Smoky Mountains Saturday for a 2 p.m. central time tip against the Chattanooga Mocs at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Racers haven't played since last Saturday, and after taking final semester exams this week, they're ready to meet the Mocs. MSU and Chattanooga each opened conference play last weekend with mixed results. MSU split two road games with a 74-72 win at Eastern Kentucky (Dec. 2) and a 75-65 loss at Morehead State (Dec. 4). The Mocs won two games at home, taking a n 81-69 win over Appalachian State (Dec. 2) and a 67-65 win over Western Carolina (Dec. 4).
Saturday's game will be aired on the Racer TV Network with the pregame show beginning at 1:30 p.m. central time. The Racer TV Network is available to subscribers of NewWave Communications, Mediacom and Comcast cable systems.

Murray State Head Coach Billy Kennedy is will soon gain his 100th career win as MSU coach and 200th of his career. He is now 88-48 (.647) in his fifth season with the Racers and 192-174 (.524) in his 13th season which also includes stops at Centenary and Southeastern Louisiana.
Last season, Kennedy the 2010 OVC Coach of the Year, led the Racers to a school and Ohio Valley Conference record 31 wins that included the first win for MSU in the NCAA Tournament since 1988 when they took down Vanderbilt in the first round in San Jose, Calif.
The Racers will be mighty glad to play in front of the home fans next Wednesday (Dec. 15) when they return to play the Bethel Wildcats in their first home game since Nov. 20. MSU will be looking to extend their 21-game home winning streak that started Feb. 23, 2009 with a win over UT Martin.
After MSU plays Bethel, they hook up with Western Kentucky at home Dec. 18 in what will be the 148th meeting in the series that started in 1932.

Saturday's game will be the eighth meeting in the series that was first played with a pair of games in 1963. After meeting again in 1986, the teams didn't see each other until 2001. In the most recent meetings, MSU won at the CFSB Center a year ago by a 73-62 score. Before that, Chattanooga beat the Racers in McKenzie Arena 74-50 in the Dr. Pepper Classic in 2007. MSU holds a 5-2 lead in the series, but has never won at Chattanooga in two games.
