
Racers Fall at Louisiana-Monroe, 5-2

The Murray State softball team lost 5-2 at Louisiana-Monroe on the third day of its Spring Break Trip at the ULM Softball Complex.
The Racers (5-12, 1-1 OVC) were led by freshman Ellyn Troup, who tallied her second home run of the season. Troup went 2-2 on the day, and reached base in all three of her at bats after walking in her third appearance at the plate.
Junior Kristen Broadway earned the start in the circle for MSU, going 3.1 innings and recording four strike outs. Sophomore Chelsey Sullivan finished the game for the Racers and added a strike out of her own in 2.2 innings of action.
The Warhawks (10-11) started the first inning by adding three runs to the scoreboard when Janel Salanoa hit a three-run homer over the left-field fence.
The Racers cut the deficit to one in the top of the second with two runs. Troup started off the inning with her second career home run over the fence in left center. MSU then had three batters walked to load the bases. Sophomore Megan Glosser hit a single to third base to score junior Stephanie Mattocks from third.
ULM added two more runs to its total in the bottom of the fourth on four singles and took a 5-2 lead. The hits in the fourth were the last for both teams and the game ended in favor of the Warhawks.
The Racers and ULM will face each other again Tuesday, March 23 at 3 p.m.at the ULM Softball Complex before MSU heads to Birmingham, Ala., to battle with Samford in the final road game of its 2010 Spring Break Trip. The Racers then return home to host defending OVC champions, Jacksonville State, in their first home conference series, March 27-28 at Racer Field.
