The Murray State softball team dropped a 4-2 decision to Austin Peay in the third game of a three-game series that had been split the day before at Racer Field at Murray-Calloway County Park. The Racers are now 13-21 overall and 5-7 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Freshman Megan Belio led the team with two hits, while junior Jenna Bradley was the only other MSU batter to record a hit in the game. Junior Kristen Broadway earned the start and sent five batters to the dugout with strike outs in three innings of action for the Racers.
The score remained tied at zero until the top of the third despite both teams have runners in scoring position in the opening inning. The Lady Govs (13-25, 5-8 OVC) were the first to get on the scoreboard, with two runs in each of the third and fourth innings. APSU took its 4-0 advantage into the bottom of the seventh when MSU mounted a come-back.
Junior Taylor Wilson started the inning off by getting hit by a pitch. Wilson then advanced to third when the right fielder dropped a deep fly ball hit by freshman Megan Belio. Sophomore Megan Glosser then hit Wilson in when she was thrown out at first at the next at-bat. The Racers were able to add one more run when junior Jenna Bradley hit a double just over the short stops head. However, that was as close as they team could get and they fell 4-2.
The Racers will now travel to Bowling Green, Ky., for a single game against Western Kentucky Tuesday, April 13 at 4 p.m. MSU will then be home the rest of the week. The Racers then host UT Martin, Wednesday, April 14 and Southeast Missouri State April 17-18 at Racer Field.
