Racer Rifle Wins Season Opener Over UT Martin

Match Final Results
The Murray State Rifle squad opened the 2010-11 season with a shoulder-to-shoulder match win over UT Martin at the Pat Spurgin Range at Roy Stewart Stadium.
The Racers posted an aggregate win of 4623 to 4552. UTM also had a women's squad compete and posted a score of 4287.
“I am very happy with the effort our team had Saturday,” said MSU Head Coach Alan Lollar, whose squad is coming off their 10th Ohio Valley Conference championship and a trip to the NCAA Championship from last spring. “We really needed to shoot in a real match atmosphere to get a handle on where we are and we performed well.”
MSU won the smallbore competition by a 2287-2249 final where Emily Quiner led the way at 577 with Nehemiah Gillman posting 576 and Bill Harvey 572.
The Racers won air rifle by a 2336-2303 count with Quiner posting 589, Kaitlin Cleven 586, Gillman 583 and Kyle Donnan 578.
“Katie did a great job shooting a new personal best in air rifle,” Lollar said. “Nehemiah and Bill had solid matches and Emily had another very solid match in both guns.”
The Racers' next event is Saturday in Oxford, Miss., at the Ole Miss Invitational.
“We will go back to work this week in preparation for the trip to Ole Miss,” Lollar said. “The competition will be tough, it's always a great match to compete in.”
