The Murray State Racers hit the road this week for two games and begin with a 7:45 p.m. tip Thursday at Jacksonville State at Mathews Coliseum in Jacksonville, Ala. The Racers have never lost to the Gamecocks in 13 meetings since JSU joined the Ohio Valley Conference in 2004. However, the games at JSU have been challenging with three of the six meetings being decided by less than 10 points.
The Racers are coming off a 66-64 loss last Saturday to Austin Peay where MSU saw their 25-game home winning streak come to an end. MSU's first loss in nearly two years had grown the streak into the fourth-longest in the nation. Isacc Miles and Isaiah Canaan led MSU with 14 points each, while Jewuan Long added 11. The Racers battled back from a 15-point deficit and had a shot tie or win the game at the buzzer. The Racers and Govs play part-two of their season series in Clarksville, Tenn. on Feb. 5.

Murray State Head Coach Billy Kennedy will soon gain his 100th career win as MSU coach and 200th of his career. He is now 94-49 (.657) in his fifth season with the Racers and 198-175 (.530) in his 13th season which also includes stops at Centenary and Southeastern Louisiana. When Kennedy reaches 100 wins at MSU, he'll join only six other MSU coaches who have reached the century mark. Carlisle Cutchin, MSU's first coach from 1925-41 is MSU's all-time leader with 267 wins, while Cal Luther is second with 241 victories from 1959-74. Counting his last two seasons at Southeastern Louisiana, Kennedy's teams in the last five complete seasons have averaged more than 21 wins.
After the JSU game, MSU travels to play Tennessee Tech Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Eblen Center in Cookeville, Tenn. The TTU-MSU series, which started in 1930, is tied for the oldest series for MSU (along with Middle Tennessee) among all current and past OVC members.
Showing balanced scoring more than most teams, the Racers are part of a group of only two teams in NCAA D-1 that have a winning record but haven't had a 20-point scorer yet this season. The other is Jacksonville (10-3).
