KENNEDY NEARS MILESTONES: Murray State Head Coach Billy Kennedy will soon gain his 100th career win as MSU coach and 200th of his career. He is now 93-48 (.659) in his fifth season with the Racers and 197-174 (.530) in his 13th season which also includes stops at Centenary and Southeastern Louisiana. When Kennedy reaches 100 wins at MSU, he'll join only six other MSU coaches who have reached the century mark. Carlisle Cutchin, MSU's first coach from 1925-41 is MSU's all-time leader with 267 wins, while Cal Luther is second with 241 victories from 1959-74. Counting his last two seasons at Southeastern Louisiana, Kennedy's teams in the last five complete seasons have averaged more than 21 wins.
FRIENDLY CONFINES: The Racers enter 2011 with the fourth longest home winning streak in the nation at 24. Kansas is the national leader with 66, while Duke is second with 26 in a row and Kentucky is third at 25. MSU's last loss at home came nearly two years ago in the BracketBusters game when Louisiana Tech came into the CFSB Center and won 69-60 on Feb. 21, 2009. MSU also has a 17-game home winning streak in OVC games since their last loss on Jan. 10, 2009 to APSU by a 59-58 score.
SLAMMING THE DOOR: When the Racers have a chance late in the game to get a win, they usually do. Since the 2008-09 season MSU is 50-1 when they have the lead with 5:00 remaining in the second half. MSU has won their last 47 games in this situation since their last loss Dec. 6, 2008 at Morehead State 79-75.
The Racers also have a streak of 21 straight wins in games that they have a lead of less than 10 points at the five-minute mark of the second half. MSU has claimed a couple of recent wins when they found themselves trailing in that same situation. Dec. 2 of this season MSU erased a two-point deficit for a 74-72 win at Eastern Kentucky and they also did it last spring at the NCAA Tournament against Vanderbilt. MSU trailed by one with five minutes left and won the game on a buzzer shot by Danero Thomas to give the Racers their first NCAA win since 1988.
