The ninth ranked Murray State rifle team traveled to take on the top team in the land when they faced off with West Virginia in a shoulder-to-shoulder match in Morgantown, W. Va.
The Racers fell to the Mountaineers by a final of 4688-4615.
The Racers were led by freshman Kelsey Emme who placed second in air rifle with a career-high 592 and led MSU with an aggregate score of 1154.
“Kelsey did a fine job in air rifle today,” MSU Head Coach Alan Lollar said. “It was a big day for her.”
The final tally in smallbore saw the Racers fall 2332-2293, while the Mountaineers also took air rifle 2356-2322.
In smallbore, MSU got a team-high 575 from Kaitlin Cleven, while Bill Harvey and Ashley Rose added 574. Kyle Donnan had a 570, with Emme posting a 562. After Emme's 592 in air rifle, the rest of the MSU scores included: Donnan at 582 and Caroline Barber at 575. Cleven and Rose each added a 573.
“We did some good things today, but they didn't outweigh the places where we struggled,” Lollar added.
The Racers return home to the Pat Spurgin Range in Roy Stewart Stadium for an 8 a.m. match Saturday with TCU and Morehead State.
