Murray State junior Isaiah Canaan was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for the second-straight week after averaging 19.5 points in Racer wins over Western Kentucky on Tuesday and Dayton on Sunday.
Canaan's 18 points against WKU and 21 in the game with UD, helped the Racers post their eighth and ninth straight wins to start the season as MSU is off to its best start since 2003.
For the week, Canaan hit 52 percent of his shots (12-of-23) from the field, 58 percent (7-of-12) from 3-point range and 88 percent (8-of-9) from the free throw line.
Canaan currently leads the OVC in scoring with 20.3 points per game which ranks him 23rd in all of NCAA D-I. His 3.3 three-point baskets per game average is tops in the league and 14th in the nation.
Canaan shared the OVC award with Jeremy Granger of Eastern Illinois.
MSU GAINS VOTES IN NATIONAL POLLS
The Racers received eight votes in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and two votes in the Associated Press Top-25.
It marks the first time the Racers have received votes to the two polls since November of 2010 just before they defeated Stanford in the first round of the 76 Classic in Anaheim, Calif.
