Women’s Track & Field Gets Final Tune-Up Chance at Redhawks Invitational

The Murray State women's indoor track & field team had a total of five athletes on hand to participate in the Redhawks Invitational, Feb. 18, as a final chance to prepare for the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship next weekend.

“This was a final time to improve on our season results before the OVC meet,” said head coach Jenny Severns. “Now we just have to get ready as a team to compete as best we can at the OVC championships next weekend.”

Sophomore Rebecca Hbetamu and junior Jami Kloenne both earned third-place finishes for the Racers. Hbetamu took third in the 1,000, with a time of 3:15.50, while Kloenne placed third in the 3000 in 11:37.19.

Sophomore Bridget Stichnot also participated in the 1,000 and earned a fifth-place finish with a time of 3:32.76. Junior Lexie Barr also took a fifth-place mark for MSU, earning a tie for fifth in the pole vault, with a season-best jump of 3.20m (10'6”). The final member of the team to participate in the event was freshman Meghan Helmer who hit a mark of 9.69m (31'9.5”) in the shot put.

The Racers will now prepare for the 2011 OVC Indoor Championship that will be hosted in Charleston, Ill., Feb. 24-26 at Lantz Fieldhouse.
