Racers Clinch Share Of 22nd OVC Title - 70-62 Over Morehead State

The Murray State Racers clinched a share of the Ohio Valley Conference regular season championship Thursday with a 70-62 win over Morehead State at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.

The Racers moved their mark in the OVC to 13-4 and secured their 22^nd title, the most in the history of the league. MSU also won the title last season.

On a night when the game was bothered by a tornado warning, the Racers sounded their own warning to the rest of the OVC that they may be rounding into great form just in time for next week's OVC Tournament.

Trailing by six at 8:30 of the opening half, the Racers got the shot in the arm they needed when Jeffery McClain fed Ed Daniel and then scored a basket of his own. When B.J. Jenkins hit a three on the final play, MSU had a 9-0 run to end the half and enjoyed a 28-22 lead.

The second half saw MSU (22-8) hit the gas pedal again when Jenkins hit three straight three-point shots plus a pair of free throws for a personal 11-0 run and MSU led 39-24 with 17:20 left.

The Racers had as much as a 21-point lead and had to fight off a furious Eagles rally that allowed Morehead State to get as close as eight points with 2:58 remaining.

Jenkins led the Racers with a career-high 25 points on 6-10 shooting from the field including 4-6 from three-point range. He also tied his career best with seven rebounds. Isaiah Canaan added 14 and Isacc Miles added 10.

The Racers play their final game of the season Saturday at home against Eastern Kentucky when MSU says goodbye to four seniors. B.J. Jenkins, Isacc Miles, Jeffery McClain and Picasso Simmons will play their final home game at MSU. Tip time is 7:30 p.m.

A win would give MSU the OVC title outright and secure the first seed in next week's tournament at Municipal Auditorium.
