Men’s Tennis Falls in Home Opener to Southern Indiana

The two wins in singles action for the Racers (0-2) were by sophomore Joao Camara and senior Luka Milicevic. Camara earned his first collegiate victory, in just his second match, defeating Rodrigo Flores (7-6, 6-4) at No. 2 singles. Milicevic defeated Juan Quiroz (6-3, 6-2) at No. 3 singles.
“I am disappointed that we lost today,” said head coach Mel Purcell. “However, Southern Indiana is a strong team and they played a good match. I was very glad to see Joao Camara win his first collegiate match so early to help build his confidence.”
MSU once again earned a single win in the doubles competition at the No. 3 doubles spot. Junior Jose Berardo and senior Mason Johnson paired to defeat Nathan Lattimer and Kory Poland (8-4).
“We will just have to get ready to come back and play strong against Memphis tomorrow,” Purcell added. “Matches like these are important for us to get ready for the conference competition later in the schedule.”
The Racers will play the final of three-straight matches, Saturday, Feb. 5. MSU will host Memphis at Kenlake Tennis Center started a 1 p.m.
