Racers Take Fifth at SIU Invitational

Results
The Racers were led by sophomore Alexis Love, who took first place in the 200 in a time of 25.47 and second in the 60, with a time of 7.76. Junior Lexi Barr started out the strong performances for MSU with a third-place finish in the pole vault (Friday, Feb. 4). She hit a mark of 3.20m (10'6”). Junior Kayla Crusham was the final Racer to finish in the top three, with a third-place mark in the 3,000. She ran the event in a personal-best time of 10:46.78.
“I am really happy with our results this weekend,” said head coach Jenny Severns. “Everyone that participated fought hard in every event.”
MSU saw three runners finish in the top-10 in the 3,000, with sophomore Bridget Stichnot coming in 6th (11:26.52) and Jami Klonne claiming 10th (11:37.88).
Three of the Racers freshman also had solid showings in some of their first meets of the year. Rookie Meghan Helmer hit a mark of 11.86m (38'11”) in the prelims of the weight throw and 9.27m (30'5”) in the prelims of the shot put. Freshman Kaite Forshey claimed fourth in the high jump, with a mark of 1.63m (5'4.25”) and Ashley Moss hit a mark of 7.11m (23'4”) in the prelims of the shot put.
MSU will return to action Feb. 11-12 at the Grand Valley State Mega Meet in Grand Rapids, Mich.
