“I am proud of how we competed today,” said head coach Mel Purcell. “I am especially proud of how hard my seniors worked this season.”
The Racers end the season with a 5-15 overall record and were sixth in the OVC with a 2-5 mark.
“The doubles point cost us a chance to go to the second round today,” Purcell added. “Whenever you lose the doubles points it is hard to win and we came as close as we could to coming back, but just fell a little short.”
MSU fell behind early, losing the doubles point. TTU then took a 2-1 lead after earning a win at No. 2 singles. Senior Renaldo Domoney then pulled the Racers even with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Vasily Eremeev at No. 4 singles. Freshman Arthur Valle gave MSU a 3-2 advantage with a 6-2, 6-3 win over James Crawford at No. 5 singles before the Golden Eagles tied the match at three with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
The final point came down to No. 1 singles. Senior Jorge Caetano fought hard all the way through, but fell 7-5, 6-4 to Alex Chen.
