SIU Edwardsville scored nine runs with two outs as they completed a series sweep over Murray State with a 15-4 victory Sunday afternoon at Reagan Field.
The Cougars (15-19) got on the board in the top of the first as a pair of singles through the left side and a wild pitch put runners on second and third with one out. Devin Caldwell drove in the runner from third with a sacrifice fly to deep center.
SIUE added to the lead in the third as Vazquez singled to center and went to third on a failed pickoff attempt. A single off the bat of Mitch Matecki scored the runner from third before Caldwell hit the next pitch over the fence in left field for a two-run home run.
The Breds (13-21) got a run back in the bottom of the third as Travis Isaak delivered a one-out double to right center and scored on a Brandon Eggenschwiler single to left center.
The Cougars added to the lead in the fifth as Caldwell beat out an infield single to shortstop to score a runner from third and scored on Zach Hawkins' double to left center.
MSU was able to push across two runs in the fifth as Ty Stetson singled to center field and went to second on a wild pitch. With one out, Isaak singled through the left side. Jacob Rhodes walked to load the bases and Colton Moore delivered a sacrifice fly to left center on a diving catch by the left fielder. Another walk to Paul Ritzheimer loaded the bases again and Zach Noonan delivered an RBI single through the right side.
SIUE added a run in the sixth as Chase Green drew a one-out walk and came around to score on a Vazquez single up the middle. A four run seventh helped the Cougars extend their lead to eight runs.
The Breds pushed across one run in the eighth as Noonan doubled off the top of the fence in left field and came around to score on Stetson's single through the left side.
Cameron Finch (0-3) took the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits over five innings. Dustin Quattrocchi (2-2) picked up the victory in relief after allowing one run on four hits and four strikeouts over three innings.
Isaak and Noonan each went 3-for-5. Moore went 1-for-1 with a double, sacrifice fly and a walk off the bench.
The Breds return to the diamond Tuesday evening as they travel to face Evansville at 6 p.m.
