Racers Earn Four Top-Five Finishes at Joey Haines Invitational

“The meet went pretty well today,” said head coach Jenny Severns. “It was good to see everyone go out and compete even though we have been training really hard.”
A total of four MSU runner finished in the top-6 of the 5,000, with junior Kayla Crusham taking second in the event in a time of 18:41.52. Junior Rebecca Hbetamu took third in a time of 18:47.97, with sophomore Bridget Stichnot earning fifth (19:52.65) and senior Kristin Reffett taking sixth (19:59.62).
Junior Christina Johnson also had a strong performance on the track for the Racers. Johnson earned second in the 400, with a personal-best time of 57.90. She also came in seventh in the 200, in a time of 26.04.
Freshman Katie Forshey also added two top-10 finishes to MSU's list in her three events of the day. Forshey claimed sixth in the 400-hurdles (1:06.56) and eighth in the high jump (1.55m/5'1”). She also hit a mark of 17.13m (56'2”) in the javelin.
Sophomore Karissa Magnuson earned two 10th-place finished for the Racers in the 1,500 (5:10.87) and the 800 (2:25.08). The final top-10 finish came from junior Lexie Barr, with a seventh-place finish in the pole vault (3.35m/10'11.75”).
MSU saw five personal-best finishes in the meet as well. Freshman Ashley Moss landing a throw of 5.86m (19'2.75”) in the shot put, senior Becca Lamb hitting 19.04m (62'6”) in the javelin, freshman Courtney Kovach ran the 1,500 in 5:59.76, freshman Sara Davis ran the 1,500 in 5;43.80, and sophomore Ayerial Rouse finished the 100 in 13.24.
Rouse also competed in the 200, finishing in a time of 28.11. Freshman Meghan Helmer was the final competitor for the Racers. Helmer competed in the hammer throw (26.91m/88'3”), discus (34.44m/113'0”) and the shot put (9.84m/32'3.25”).
Two of the MSU men's cross country team members were also at the event and participated as unattached competitors. Scott Trent participated in the 800 (2:18.84) and the long jump (5.25m/17'2.75”) and Mark Althoff ran the 3,000 steeplechase (11:00.88).
The Racers will be in action again next weekend at the Hilltopper Relays in Bowling Green, Ky.
