Racers Record Strong Performances at the Showdown on the Cumberland

The Murray State women's track & field team saw nine team members record 10 top-5 finishes on the Showdown on the Cumberland in Clarksville, Tenn. The Racers finished third (64 points), just one point shy of second.

“I am happy with the meet,” said head coach Jenny Severns. “We just wanted to get in a good workout today and I think we did that. It was good to see Becca Lamb, Lexie Barr and Alexis Love take home wins.”
Senior Kristin Reffett led MSU with two top-5 finishes in her two events of the day. Reffett started the meet with a third-place finish in the javelin, with a thrown of 26.97m (88'5”). The Evansville, Ind., native then finished the day by finishing second in the 1,500, with a personal-best time of 4:54.76.
Senior Becca Lamb started the meet off strong for the Racers by earning first place in the javelin. Lamb hit a mark of 27.34m (89'8”). Fellow senior Lexie Barr then followed with a first-place finish in the pole vault, as the second event to conclude on the day. Barr cleared the bar at 3.50m (11'6”).
Sophomore Alexis Love then added a third first-place finish in the 100. Love ran a personal-best race with a time of 11.97. She was just 0.97 seconds off the school record of 11.00.
Senior Josha Rogers took third in the high jump, with a mark of 1.57m (5'2”), to round out the top performances in field events.
MSU also saw top-5 finishes from four other team members in track events. Junior Amber Mills led the Racers in the 400, with time of 59.21 for second place. Freshman Katie Forsheyfinished fifth in the same event, with a personal-best time of 1:00.46.
Sophomore Ayerial Rouse recorded a career-best time of 26.80 in the 200, for fourth place. Junior Kayla Crusham then took third, just behind Reffett, in the 1,500. Crusham recorded a time of 4:57.14.
MSU also saw two other athletes finish with personal-best performances. Freshman Ashley Moss threw the shot put 7.49m (27'7”) and Rouse ran the 100 in 12.70.
The Racers will now take the next week to prepare for the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships on their home track. MSU will host the championships at Marshall Gage Track, May 6-7.
