Breds Lose Finale to Skyhawks

Five players have multi-hit games in 17-hit attack
Murray State scored 11 runs in the first three innings, but it was not enough as UT Martin battled all the way back to walk off with a 14-13 victory Sunday afternoon in the final game of a three-game series at Skyhawk Field.
The bottom of the ninth started with a throwing error by the Breds, their fourth of the game. After a sacrifice bunt and a single put runners on the corners, Wes Patterson chopped a single through the left side for the game-winning hit.
The Breds (12-14, 3-2 OVC) pushed across a run in the first inning for the third-straight game as Brandon Elliott doubled to right field and scored on Travis Isaak double that took a bad hop and avoided the second baseman.
MSU brought the bats in the second with Zach Noonan walking to start the inning and scoring on Cody Larson two-run home run off the right-field foul pole. Elliot Frey followed with a walk and went to second on a passed ball. After a groundout moved the runner to third, Elliot singled up the middle to plate Frey. An Isaak single and a Brandon Eggenschwiler walk loaded the bases and forced a pitching change. Paul Ritzheimer greeted the reliever with a bases-clearing double down the left-field line. He didn't stay at second long as Noonan ripped the first pitch he saw into to left center for an RBI single.
The offense continued in the second with back-to-back one-out singles from Ty Stetson and Elliott. With two outs, Rhodes delivered a no-doubt three-run shot to right center.
The Skyhawks (6-21, 2-4 OVC) finally got a hit in the fourth as a walk and an infield single were followed by a wild pitch to put two runners in scoring position. Patterson plated both runners with a single up the middle, before Matt Young came up four batters later and delivered a two-run single to right field.
UTM continued to crawl back into the game in the sixth as they pushed across three more runs to pull within 11-7. Young delivered an RBI double to left center. A dropped fly ball allowed the second run to score, before the third run scored on a single off the bat Cody Terry.
The Breds finally got on the board again in the eighth as Stetson started the inning with a single to left field and scored on Isaak's double to the warning track in left center.
The Skyhawks completed the comeback in the eighth inning as they pushed across six runs to take a one-run lead. They strung together five run-scoring hits, as well as a sacrifice fly.
MSU tied the game in the ninth as Noonan delivered a double to right field and later scored when Stetson beat out an infield single to short with two outs.
Ben Lady (0-1) took the loss after allowing one unearned run on two hits over two-thirds of an inning. Alec Mills (1-0) earned the victory after allowing one run on three hits over 1.1 innings.
Elliott led the offense by going 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Stetson and Isaak each collected three hits.
The Breds return to the diamond on Wednesday when they travel to face Southern Illinois. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
