Elliott extends his streak to reaching safely in 30-straight games
BOX SCORE
The road woes continued for Murray State (12-15) at Southern Illinois as the Salukis hit three home runs and handed the Breds a 9-0 defeat Wednesday afternoon at Abe Martin Field. The loss drops MSU to 4-23 all-time at SIU, and have not won there since 1997.
The Salukis (8-19) got on the board in the second inning as a leadoff single was followed by a Jordan Sivertsen two-run home run to left field. With two outs, a single and a walk turned the lineup over for Chris Murphy to deliver a two-run triple to left field. A fifth run scored when a line drive went off the glove of the first baseman for a two-base error.
The lead grew in the third as a two-out hit by pitch was followed with a two-run homer to left by Blake Pinnon. A solo shot from Austin Montgomery to lead off the fifth and a RBI single from Pinnon extended the lead to 9-0.
Curran McNeely (0-1) was saddled with the loss after allowing seven runs, six earned, on five hits and four strikeouts over three innings. Andrew Bever (2-2) picked up the victory after allowing four hits in six shutout innings.
Brandon Elliott led the offense by going 2-for-4 and extended his streak to reaching safely to 30 games.
The Breds return to action Saturday afternoon as they open a three-game series against Jacksonville State. The series will get underway at 1 p.m. at Reagan Field.
