The Metropolis, Ill., native cleared a personal-best height of 1.73m (5'8”) which was over two inches higher than the 2010 champion (Katherine Lynn, TTU). Freshman Katie Forshey placed fourth in the same event, with a personal-best jump of 1.63m (5'4.5”).
The Racers are currently in third, out of nine teams, with 26 points after the first day of competition. Eastern Illinois leads after the first day (74), with Southeast Missouri in second (53).
MSU also saw junior Kayla Crusham on the podium, as she earned a third-place finish in the 3,000 steeplechase. The Hebron, Ky., native ran the race in a personal-record time of 11:19.24, over four seconds faster than her previous best time. Sophomore Karissa Magnuson also competed in the steeplechase, finishing ninth in a time of 12:27.45.
Junior Rebecca Hbetamu and sophomore Bridget Stichnot were the final two members of the team to compete in a final in their event. Both ran in the 10,000, with Hbetamu finishing fourth and Stichnot coming across the line ninth. Hbetamu finished the race in 39:32.02 and Stichnot crossed in 40:57.52.
The Racers also saw two competitors advance out of the prelims in their respective races. Sophomore Alexis Love qualified for the finals of the 100, with a time of 12.12. Forshey advanced to the finals of the 400 hurdles, with a time of 1:04.62.
Competition gets underway again Saturday, May 7 at 8 a.m. at Marshall Gage Track.
