Track & Field to Add 14 to 2011-12 Roster

“I am really excited about the student-athletes that we have coming to Murray State in the fall,” said Severns. “We filled a lot of holes that we had and have some student-athletes that can make an immediate impact at the conference level. I can't wait to get started.”
Sharda Bettis, Jr., Sprints/Jumps, Dallas, Texas (Prairie View A&M/Kemp)
A transfer from Prairie View A&M in the Southwestern Athletic Conference…has personal bests of 8.68 in the 60m hurdles, 7.85 in the 60 and 5.55m (18'2.5”) in the long jump with the Panthers…participated in track & field at Kemp High School where she ran the 100 hurdles in 14.25.
Brittany Bohn, Fr., Middle Distance, Mahomet, Ill. (Mahomet-Seymour)
A four-year member of the varsity cross country and track & field teams at Mahomet-Seymour…set her school's record in cross country, finishing the 3-mile course in 17:38 at a senior…also helped her 4x400 team set an Illinois indoor record…finished in the top-10 in three events in the 2011 Illinois outdoor meet…was 4th in the 4x400 (school record), 5th in the 4x800 and 6th in the 800 (2:16)…earned All-Conference honors as a senior and qualified for the state meet three of her four seasons.
Emily Chrisman, Fr., Sprints/Hurdles, Murray, Ky. (Calloway County)
A four-year member of the varsity team at Calloway County…participated in the regionals and Kentucky State Meet all four seasons…finished seventh in the 100 hurdles at the 2011 state meet and 11th in the 300 hurdles...earned a 10th-place finish in the 100 hurdles at the state meet in 2010 and was 13th in the 300 hurdles.
A four-year member of the varsity track & field teams at McHenry East…earned All-Fox Valley Conference honors all four years...finished in the top-10 in the high jump (outdoor) all four seasons, including a second-place finish in 2010...was also a top-10 finisher in the long jump for three seasons…claimed the state indoor high jump title in 2011, with a jump of 1.72m (5'8”)…set the school record in the high jump (outdoor) as a junior, clearing 1.75m (5'9”).
Anna Grimes, So., Distance, Fort Meade, Md. (UNC Greensboro/Meade)
A transfer from UNC Greensboro that will participate in both cross country and track & field…will be a sophomore for cross country and indoor track and a junior during the outdoor campaign…took sixth at the Southern Conference Outdoor Championship in the 3,000 Steeplecase in a time of 11:21.12…as a member of the Meade High School track & field team she took third at the Maryland State meet in the 3200 (11:26) and was fourth in the 1600 (5:19.43) as a junior.
Halie Holloway, Fr., Sprints/Jumps, Elizabethtown, Ky. (John Hardin)
A three-year member of the John Hardin varsity team...has personal bests of 12.26 in the 100, 58.47 in the 400 and 11.31m (37'1.5”) in the triple jump.
Helped Dallas Lutheran claim the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Division 3A Cross Country State Championship in 2010 in her first season…also won the individual cross country state title as a senior in 2010…had three first-place wins during the regular-season, with individually finishing in the top-10 in every meet…helped the team to the state runner-up finishes in both indoor and outdoor track & field in 2010 while finishing in the top-5 in her events in every meet…claimed the Texas State 1600 and 3200 as a senior with personal-best times.
Brianna McCarthy, Fr., Throws, Fort Mitchell, Ky. (Beechwood)
A four year member of the Beechwood track & field team...set the Kentucky State record in the discus at the state championships in 2011…her throw of 38.32m (125'9”) broke a 30-year-old record…she earned both the 2011 state discus and shot put titles…also earned the 2011 Indoor state title in the shot put, the 2010 and 2009 Class A state discus championships…was the runner-up in 2010 in the shot put…named to the KTCCCA First Team All-State in both the discus and shot put in 2010…holds the Beechwood school records in both the shot put and the discus.
Abbie Oliver, Fr., Middle Distance, Wales, England (Connah's Quay)
Competes for Connah's Quay High School in Wales, England in both cross country and track & field…has personal-best times of 2:18.1 in the 800, 4:52.5 in the 1500 and 10:51.1 in the 3000 all set in 2010…helped her team to a 15th-place finish at the British U23 Cross Country Championships in 2010.
A four-year member of the Kearney High School varisty team…claimed the conference title in the shot put and discus as a freshman…was 5th in the Missouri Class 3 State Meet in the shot put, with a personal best throw of 11.85m (38'9.75”)…has a personal record of 33.52m (110') in the discus.
Natalie Pattin, Fr., Sprints/Middle Distance, Florissant, Mo. (McCluer North)
A four-year member of the varsity team at McCluer North High School…is a four-year Missouri State 800 finalist…a three-time AAU National Champion in the 4x800 (2005, 06, 10)…has a personal-best time in the 800 of 2:17 and 58.2 in the 400.
Sydney Potts, Fr., Hudles/Throws, Benton, Ill. (Benton Consolidated)
A four-year member of the Benton Consolidated varsity team…the Rangerettes claimed the Illinois state championship in her freshman campaign and has been conference champions for the past four years…named All-Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference and All-South honors for the past four years…also earned All-Illinois honors in 2010…took eighth in the 100 hurdles at the Illinois State meet…has a personal-best time in the 100 hurdles of 15.2 and placed third in 2011 state meet.
Tonia Pratt, Fr., Throws, Michigan Center, Mich. (Michigan Center)
Spent four years on the Michigan Center varsity team…earned the runner-up finish at the Michigan State championship in the shot put in 2008 after earned the conference and regional titles…in 2009 was the state runner-up in the discus after earning conference and regional titles…was the 2010 state champion in the shot put…earned All-Cascade, All-Area and All-Michigan teams for the past four seasons...has personal-best throws of 45.05m (147'10”) in the discus and 12.87m (42'3”) in the shot put.
A four-year member of the Memphis Central varsity team…has personal-best marks of 14.5 in the 100 hurdles, 44.28 in the 300 hurdles, 1.62m (5'4”) in the high jump and 5.43m (17'10”) in the long jump.
