ESPN.com - Marcus Brown Article
Former Murray State men's basketball player Marcus Brown was featured in article by ESPN.com writer Evin Alexander Demirel (July 23).
Brown, who played for the Racers from 1992-96, was inducted into the MSU Hall of Fame in February 2010 and became the ninth player to have his jersey retired when his no. 5 was lifted to the rafters at the CFSB Center.
In the ESPN.com article, Brown talked about his European career that has spanned 14 seasons and may yet go into a 15th. Now 37, Marcus is a player that has made a name for himself in Europe with playing stints in France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Lithuanian and Russia.
He came to MSU from West Memphis, Ark., and is the all-time scorer in the 24-team Euroleague since the league was started in 2000. Brown's 2,715 points in Europe goes with the 2,236 points he scored in a Murray State uniform, where he is the third leading scorer for the Racers.
Brown was named All-Ohio Valley Conference three times during his MSU career and twice was named the OVC Player of the Year. He is one of only nine former MSU players to earn All-OVC honors three times.
Brown told ESPN.com “Coming from West Memphis, I would have never imagined I would go to the Holy Land. I would never imagine I'd be up close to the Eiffel Tower or visit the Coliseum in Rome or the Acropolis of Greece. My time in Europe, I wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world. My experiences helped make me a better man."
