Racers Open 2011 Home Schedule Against Evansville

The Murray State volleyball team will open the home portion of its 2011 campaign, Tuesday, Sep. 6 at 7 p.m. when Evansville comes to Racer Arena. The match will be the first time for fans to see the renovated Racer Arena that got a new paint job, benches and photos of current and former players on the walls over the summer.

The Racers (0-7) and the Purple Aces (6-2) battled each other over the weekend at the Marriott Volley Brawl in Valparaiso, Ind., with Evansville earning a 3-1 (26-25, 11-25, 21-25, 21-25) victory. The win gave the Purple Aces a 16-9 advantage in the all-time series, including a 6-5 lead when playing at Racer Arena.

MSU is 14-14 in home openers since 1983, including a 0-1 mark when opening the home season against Evansville. Last season the Racers opened the home portion of their season with a 3-0 win over SIU Edwardsville.

MSU will also be in action this weekend at the Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Ill. The Racers will face host Southern Illinois, Friday, Sep. 9 at 7:30 p.m. MSU will continue action Saturday, Sep. 10, with matches against Memphis (10:30 a.m.) and Green Bay (5 p.m.).
