Racers Produce 15 Top-10 Finishes at SIU Open

The Murray State women's track & field team returned to action after over a month off and returned to the same venue where they had competed their first meet of the season. The Racers made the most of their familiarity with SIU Recreation Center, earning 15 top-10 finishes in the SIU Open in Carbondale, Ill.
“It was a good start to the semester,” said head coach Jenny Severns. “I am excited to see what we are capable of this season. We have a lot of women that can make a big impact.”
Junior Alexis Love led the way for the Racers with a first-place finish in the 200 (25.14) and a second-place finish in the 60 (7.64).
Freshman Ashley Conway and Lindsey Scaggs and sophomore Sharda Bettis all earned top-5 finishes. Bettis took second in the 60 hurdles, with a personal-best time of 8.90, and then added a career jump of 5.31m (17'5.25”) for sixth in the long jump. Conway placed third in the high jump, with a mark of 1.60m (5'3”), and was eighth in the long jump, with a personal-best jump of 5.13m (15'10”). Scaggs was fourth in the pole vault with a personal-best clear of 2.75m (9'0.25”).

Tonia Pratt – Shot Put – 12.77m (41'10.25”) – 8th
Addie Paris – Shot Put – 12.10m (39'8.5”) – 10th
Tonia Pratt – Weight Throw – 15.50m (50'10.25”) – 8th
The Racers will be back in action Jan. 21-22 at the Illini Classic in Champaign, Ill.
