Football Hits Road for Showdown at Jacksonville State

STORY LINES
Murray State features one of the most high powered passing offenses in the FCS. The Rarcers average 390.9 passing yards a game, while scoring 40.1 points a game. The numbers are even more impressive in conference play as MSU averages 458.2 yards through the air and 57.5 points.
Wide receiver Walter Powell is on pace to shatter the single-season receiving records at MSU. Through seven games, Powell has 74 catches for 912 yards and six touchdowns. Harvey Tanner (167) holds the receptions recor with 88, while Reggie Swinton had 1,120 receiving yards in 1996.
Quarterback Casey Brockman enters the game needing only 97 yards to become the all-time leader in passing yards in the Ohio Valley Conference. He also needs just 479 yards of total offense to set a new MSU and OVC career record.
The game between the Racers and Gamecocks has come down to the final possession in each of the last two seasons. In both cases, the Racers have had the ball in the final minutes in a one possession game. Unfortunately, the Racers were not able to find the endzone in either game.

The Racers return to action as they travel to face Jacksonville State on Oct. 27. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.

The Racers and Gamecocks have met nine times prior on the gridiron. MSU won the first meeting, but JSU has won each of the last eight meetings.
Brockman, Powell Earn Honor
The duo of Casey Brockman and Walter Powell were honored by the College Football Performance Awards for their efforts against UT Martin.
Brockman Sets Yards Record
Casey Brockman became the Racers all-time leader in passing yards after he threw for 537 yards against UT Martin. He now holds the career records for yards, attempts, completions and touchdowns.
500 Yards
The Racer offense has racked up at least 500 yards in five of the seven games this season. MSU has gained at least 549 yards in all four OVC contests. MSU racked up a season-high 747 yards against UT Martin.
Highest Scoring OVC Game
The Racers and Skyhawks combined for 125 points, making it the highest scoring game in OVC history. It broke the old record of 110 points set when the same two teams met in 2007.
Brockman Throws For 8
Casey Brockman broke his own record against UT Martin by throwing for eight touchdown passes. He had previously thrown for seven touchdowns in each of the last two seasons.
Powell Eyes Single-Season Records
Walter Powell has his eyes set on a pair of MSU single-season records. Through seven games, Powell has 74 catches for 912 yards and six touchdowns. Harvey Tanner holds the record with 88 receptions in 1967, while Reggie Swinton had 1,120 receiving yards in 1996.
Watkins Over 100
Wide receiver Dontel Watkins had his first career 100-yard receiving game as a Racer against UT Martin. He finished the day with seven grabs for 149 yards and a touchdown.
Four-Game Scoring Streak
The Racers are in the midst of the second-highest four-game scoring streak in school history. MSU has scored 230 points over their previous four games. The Racers scored 316 points over the final three games of the 1928 season. The modern-era record was 196 points during the 2010 season.
Powell 4-Straight Over 100
Walter Powell has over 100 receiving yards in each of the last four games. He has improved his numbers in each game. He had 142 yards against Eastern Illinois, 162 yards against Tennessee Tech, 172 yards against Austin Peay and 196 yards against UT Martin. The four-straight 100-yard receiving games ties the school record set by Marcus Harris in 2010.
