Racers Shoot Season-High Over Weekend

In a showdown of a trio of top-10 teams on Saturday, the 10^th-ranked Racer rifle team had a strong showing at Pat Spurgin Range, shooting a season-best 4651 aggregate score.

Both Murray State and fourth-ranked OVC foe Jacksonville State scored 4651, however the Gamecocks won the tiebreaker to take the match. No. 9 Ole Miss shot 4609.

"It's always hard when you lose a close match like that," said Head Coach Alan Lollar. "It's easy to look back and say what if. But, when you step back and look at what we accomplished this weekend, it puts things in perspective."

The Racers' score of 2314 in smallbore was a season-high and the 2337 in air rifle was the third-highest team output of the year. Kelsey Emme led Murray State in smallbore, Emme shot a career-best score of 585 in the discipline.

Bill Harvey was the second-highest Racer in smallbore, shooting 582. Kaitlyn Wilson also shot a new career-high in smallbore with a 577. Marisca Mozeleski's 573 was also a career-best for her.

Tessa Howald led the Racers with a career-high in air rifle with a 590. Emme recorded the next best score for the Racers in air rifle with a 586. Michael Burzynski was third for MSU as he shot a 583 which ties a career-best for him. Bill Harvey shot 576 in the discipline.

Caroline Barber shot 578 in air rifle to have the third-best score for the Racers. Not far behind Barber was Kirsten Moyer who had a score of 577. Both Mozeleski and Ryan Limpus had scores of 571 in air rifle to round out the Racer scores. 571 is a new career-high for Limpus.

"It was time for this team to spread its wings a little," said Lollar "Their hard work and faith in the process was going to be rewarded. I kept telling them that it would. I think some of the waiting is over. Now, they know they can compete with anyone. Now, training will take on new meaning."

The Racers will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 3 as they will travel to Oxford, Miss., for the second time this season where they will face Ole Miss once again.
