The Murray State volleyball team fell, 3-1, to UT Martin on Friday night in OVC action at Skyhawk Fieldhouse in Martin.

The opening set went back and forth in the early going until eventually it was knotted at 10. From that point, UT Martin (7-12, 3-2 OVC) went on a 9-3 run and eventually took the first frame, 25-20.

However, in the second set, the Racers (3-12, 1-4 OVC) battled back and never trailed in the stanza except at 1-0. MSU closed out the set on a 12-4 run to even the match with a 25-19 set victory.

In the third set, the Racers led by as many as three midway through the frame, but allowed UT Martin to come back and push to set point at 24-19. From that point, Murray State dug in and extended the set to 24-23. Despite the late rally, the Skyhawks were able to close out the set and take a 2-1 match lead.

In the fourth set, the Racers struggled to get from behind the eight ball early and trailed for the majority of the match. UT Martin closed out the game on a 6-3 run to win the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-1.

Freshman Taylor Olden (Lincoln, Ill.) led the Racers with a match-high 13 kills, while junior Katlyn Hudson (Columbus, Ind.) led four MSU players with double-digit digs with17. Senior Lia Havili (Haltom City, Texas) notched her third double-double in the match, the most of any Racer this season, by tallying 29 assists and 10 digs.

The Racers will return to action on the road on Saturday when they travel to Cape Girardeau to take on division-leading Southeast Missouri at 2 p.m.
