Racers Face Tough Road Test at #18 Eastern Kentucky

STORY LINES
Murray State will play the 18th-ranked team in the FCS for the second-straight week. Last week, the Racers handed then-No. 18 Tennessee State a 49-28 defeat at The Track.
Saturday's contest will be another test for the Racer offense as the Colonels own the top scoring defense (21.5) and total defense (351.1) in the OVC. TSU owned the top scoring defense in the league before giving up 49 to the Racers a week ago.
Wide receiver Walter Powell enters the weekend with 82 catches for 1,029 yards. He needs six catches to tie Harvey Tanner's record of 88 catches set in 1967. He is also just 91 yards shy of breaking Reggie Swinton's (1996) record of 1,120 receiving yards.
Quarterback Casey Brockman now owns every career passing record at Murray State. With two games left this season, Brockman needs 11 completions, 33 attempts and 242 yards of total offense to break his own single-season marks. He also needs 300 yards to break Justin Fuente's single-season mark of 3,497 yards set during 1999. With 361 yards of total offense, Brockman will set
The Game
The Racers hit the road for the final time this season as they travel to face Eastern Kentucky. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. on the Racer TV Network.
vs. Eastern Kentucky
The Colonels hold a 42-25-4 record in the all-time series. EKU has won each of the last seven meetings, and 10 of the last 11 dating back to 2001. The Racers lone victory over that stretch came in 2004, a 19-16 overtime victory in Richmond.
Last Year vs EKU
The two teams played a close ballgame last season as a missed extra point in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as EKU won 34-33 at The Track. The Racers battled back from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit, only to have the game-tieing extra point hit off the right upright.
Powell Eyes Receptions Record
Walter Powell enters the weekend with 82 receptions this season. He trails Harvey Tanner (1967) for the all-time record for receptions in a season with 88.
Berry and Mix Earn OVC Honors
Murray State running back Jaamal Berry was named the OVC Newcomer of the Week, while punter Steven Mix was named the Specialist of the Week after their performances against Tennessee State. The duo was also selected to the CFPA Honor Roll at their respected positions.
Powell Earns National Honor
Junior Walter Powell earned another national honor as he was chosen as the CFPA National All-Purpose Performer of the Week. Powell finished the game against Tennessee State with eight catches for 117 yards and touchdown. He also returned a kickoff 32 yard and had 55 yards on four punt returns for a total of 204 all-purpose yards.
Ground Attack
The Racer offense is known for its aerial assault on defenses, but the ground game has taken center stage over the previous two games as MSU has rushed for nine touchdowns the last two weeks. On the season, the Racers rushed for an OVC-high 22 touchdowns.
Racers Beat Ranked Opponent
Murray State beat a ranked opponent for the second-straight season as the Racers handed #18 Tennessee State a 49-28 defeat. In 2011, MSU beat #15 Tennessee Tech on the road.
Racers Win 5 Straight vs. TSU
The victory over Tennessee State marked the fifth-straight victory for the Racers in the series. MSU won each of the last two games by at least three touchdowns, after the previous three games were decided by a touchdown or less.
29-Straight Points
Murray State scored the final 29 points over the final 15:27 of the game to rally to beat Tennessee State. The Racers trailed by eight points late in the third quarter before they reversed fortunes for the victory.
Racers Rush for 284
The MSU offense rushed for a season-high 284 yards and four touchdowns against Tennessee State. The Racers ran 33 running plays and averaged 8.6 yards per carry. It was the most rushing yards for the Racers since they rushed for 300 yards against Tennessee Tech on Nov. 6, 2010.
Brockman Sets Total Offense Record
Senior quarterback Casey Brockman added another record to his collection as he became the MSU and OVC all-time leader in total offense. He now has 9,962 yards of total offense, passing the old record held by Michael Proctor.
Berry's Big Day
Jaamal Berry had his best day as a Racers as he rushed 16 times for 163 yards and three touchdowns in the victory over Tennessee State. He scored on runs of 35, five and one yards, while averaging 10.2 yards per carry.
100-Yard Receiving Games
Walter Powell tied the MSU record with his fifth 100-yard receiving game against Tennessee State. Powell caught eight passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. He tied the record held by Marcus Harris (2010) and Terrance Tillman(1999).
Powell Over 1,000 Yards
Junior Walter Powell became the sixth Racer to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark against Tennessee State. He finished the game with eight catches for 117 yards and a touchdown, and now has 1,029 yards this season. He ranks fourth on the single season list.
