#9 Racers Clinch Share of OVC Title With 82-63 Win Over Austin Peay

The Murray State Racers posted a 82-63 win over Austin Peay Saturday night at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.
The Racers (24-1) bounced back from their only loss of the season Thursday to move closer to winning a third straight Ohio Valley Conference regular season title at 12-1.
Leading by a point at the 12:03 mark of the first half, MSU broke the game open.
The Racers got going with defense when Zay Jackson made a steal and easy basket for a 23-12 lead, followed by an Ed Daniel hoop and a three by Jewuan Long for a 20-5 run and a 28-12 lead at the 6:26 mark. Canaan was 3-of-4 from three in the first half to help the Racers dig out of an early 5-0 hole.
MSU lead 37-24 at the half and opened the second half with an 11-0 run.
Jewuan Long scored back-to-back baskets on fast breaks, while Donte Poole hit a corner three for a 48-24 MSU lead with 17:30 remaining.
The Racers never led by fewer than 16 points after that point, pushing the gap to 28 at 73-45 with 6:38 remaining as MSU went on a 15-3 run, fueled by six points from Ivan Aska.
Canaan led the Racers once again in points, scoring 23 on 5-of-9 shooting from the field with three 3-pointers and finished the night 10-of-11 from the free throw line.
Long and Aska each added 12 points on the night, Long shooting 5-of-8 from the floor and Aska 4-of-7 on the night.
Stacy Wilson added 10 off the bench for the Racers, hitting a pair of 3-pointers.
MSU dominated on the glass, holding a sizable 37-23 rebounding advantage. Latreze Mushatt grabbed nine boards to pace the team.
The Racers shot lights out after halftime, making 14-of-23 field goal attempts to shoot 60.9 percent in the half and 51.9 percent for the game. They continued their success at the free throw line, knocking down 14-of-17 attempts.
Alton Williams led Austin Peay with 15 points, all coming after halftime and all from beyond the 3-point line.
The Racers return to action next Wednesday, hitting the road for OVC action at Southeast Missouri. MSU will then close out home play next Saturday night, hosting Saint Mary's in the Sears BracketBusters game.
