Online Fan Vote Encouraged For Canaan In Lou Henson Award

Murray State fans are encouraged to vote for Isaiah Canaan online after POINT 3 Basketball and Collegeinsider.com announced the launch of fan voting for the Lou Henson Mid-Major Player of the Year Award.
The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top mid-major player in NCAA D-I men's college basketball. Canaan, a junior from Biloxi, Miss., was named to the watch list for the Henson award in the preseason.
Murray State fans can vote for Canaan at VoteLouHenson.com. POINT 3 will make a contribution to the general scholarship fund of the school that accumulates the most votes, and throw their student body a viewing party for the NCAA men's basketball championship.
Canaan is having an outstanding season for the Racers and has helped lead the team to their third straight Ohio Valley Conference regular season championship with a 13-1 record. Canaan and the Racers were the final undefeated team in NCAA D-I at 23-0 and are currently 26-1.
Canaan has four 30-point games this season and 13 of more than 20 points. Canaan leads the Racers in scoring (19.3 points per game) and assists (2.62 per game). He is also making three point shots at a record pace for MSU with 84 on the season and a percentage of .480. Last week, Canaan was ranked 20th nationally in scoring and was seventh in the nation in made three point baskets per game and fourth in percentage.
This season, Canaan has also been recognized as Sporting News Mid-Season All-America and named to the watch list for CBSSports.com Player of the Year. He has also been named to the Oscar Robertson Award and Bob Cousy Award watch lists.
Canaan is also a former OVC Freshman of the Year, OVC Tournament MVP and two-time All-OVC selection.
The award is named in honor of Lou Henson who retired after a spectacular coaching career that lasted 41 years. When he left the game in 2005 he was sixth all-time in career Division I wins with 779. He is the winningest coach at both Illinois and New Mexico State. He is one of only 12 coaches in the history of the game to take two schools to the Final Four.
Fan voting presented by POINT 3 counts for one-third of the criteria in selecting the Lou Henson Award winner. A Collegeinsider.com Selection Committee will make up the remaining two-thirds. The winner of the 2012 Lou Henson Award will be announced on March 30 in New Orleans, site of the NCAA men's basketball championship.
